What's the plan here? (Opinion)

The Washington Wizards are stuck.

No, not irreparably stuck; not doomed to spiral into darkness for the rest of eternity like, say, the Sacramento Kings. But unless something is done soon, it may only get worse.

Look, I get it. John Wall was a top five point guard in the NBA two seasons ago. Yes, Bradley Beal did just average 22 points and make an All-Star team. And it is true, Otto Porter is one of, if not the most, efficient player in the entire league.

But seriously... Dwight Howard was the best we could do?

I know the Wizards managed to rid themselves of bald Polish shit-talker Marcin Gortat. It was a pretty good trade! Austin Rivers should be the best backup PG the Wizards have had in several years and could be a damn good sixth man. And yes, Dwight Howard IS still a very productive center, whether people that hate his personality would like to believe (me included). But this offseason, much like previous offseasons, has left a lot to be desired.

Even in the East, the weakest conference I have seen in a very, very long time, the Wizards look resigned to hovering around 45 wins and a middling seed leading to a first round exit. If they're lucky, maybe the Wall-Dwight connection will wreak havoc on the league while Beal and Porter rain hell from outside. But what are the chances?

Look, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, and I do realize this has been a pretty depressing post thus far... but what IS the Wizards plan?!

Every year there's more drama about Wall and his teammates. We saw last season during the Twitter fiasco and during the early All-Star PG's injury that the team was actually winning a lot! Not even that, but now there has to be some question on whether Wall is even the best player on the team, coming off a mediocre year marred by injuries, especially with Beal finally making it through a full season and scoring the lights out in the midst of it.

This question is asked a lot, yes, but is it possible that this team is better without their star point guard? Is it just me or does he seem like one of those players that has to be the 2nd fiddle for a team to succeed with him? You know those players: Blake Griffin, Paul George, Gordon Hayward, etc. There are always those guys that are superstars but we just aren't sure have the exact skillset to be the best player on a championship team. And right now, it seems like the Wizards have three of these guys.

Now it's pretty clear that unless he demands a trade (and with his personality, can we rule it out?) he is sticking around until his contract is up. We know by now that the ownership and management has no desire to make risky moves. The biggest thing that happens this season will most likely be the team dealing away Oubre or Howard with a 1st round pick for a rental role-player who can score (hello Bojan!).

I don't know what it is but it just seems like with a different point guard this team could really succeed. Beal and Porter are FANTASTIC complimentary players. They are able to shoot from anywhere on the floor and can really succeed in the right circumstance. Neither of them are expected to take over at the end of games or break ankles leading to a clutch dunk at the end of a game. But with the right superstar to lead them, maybe this team could break its ceiling and finally make it to the ECF for the first time in a LONG time. This team has the potential to finally win 50 games. But it's that one nagging question that remains.

Is John Wall the solution?

...

What do you guys think?
