The Wizards announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have named Pops Mensah-Bonsu as the Capital City Go-Go’s General Manager and Jarell Christian as the team’s coach.

The announcements don’t come as a big surprise—2 Ways & 10 Days and The Sports Capitol both reported last month the hires were imminent last month—but now that they’re both officially on board, they can both speak out about their new opportunities. Here’s what Mensah-Bonsu had to say in the press release:

“I am humbled to be entrusted with this position and would like to thank the Wizards organization for the opportunity. Washington is my second home and the city has embraced me ever since I stepped on the George Washington campus. I am excited to be able to give back by making sure that the Go-Go is a pillar in the community and a team that the city can get behind.”

And here’s what Christian had to say:

“I am proud to represent the Wizards and the D.C. community, especially Ward 8, as we head into our inaugural season. The organization has expressed their confidence in me to lead these young men at such an influential time in their careers and I am excited about doing so as a part of such a close-knit community. My family and I look forward to meeting the individuals that make D.C. such a special place.”

Ben Standig of The Sports Capitol is also reporting the Go-Go have hired Scott Schroeder as the team’s assistant general manager. Last season, he served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Clippers’ G-League affiliate. Longtime readers of SB Nation may remember him as the former editor of Ridiculous Upside, SBN’s site focused on the G-League. So if you were really hoping to get a blogger perspective on the basketball in the front office, congratulations, it’s there.
