The Wizards are inviting Chris Chiozza to be part of their 2018 Las Vegas Summer League team, according to Kevin Brockway of GatorSports.com.
Chiozza played four seasons at Florida, averaging 11.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game during his senior season while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from deep. He’s best remembered for hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to help the Gators advance to the Elite Eight of the 2017 NCAA tournament.
Chiozza will reunite in Vegas with Devin Robinson, who is on two-way contract with the Wizards. They spent three years together in Florida. We’ll see if reuniting them helps Robinson turn in a stronger performance for Washington. He only averaged 3.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in Vegas last summer.
The other thing to keep an eye on is how the Wizards plan to split the minutes between Chiozza and Issuf Sanon, who the Wizards took with the 44th overall pick on Thursday. Will Washington let him take the lion’s share of the minutes to help him develop, or will they use lean on Chiozza’s experience to put Robinson and Troy Brown in the best position to succeed?
The Wizards kick off Las Vegas Summer League action on Friday, July 6 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time as they take on Collin Sexton and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
