The Wizards announced on Wednesday they will be facing the Knicks on January 17 for a regular season game at O2 Arena in London.
John Wall had this to say about the upcoming game in the team’s press release:
“It will be an honor to represent the Washington Wizards organization as we play our first game in the UK. I look forward to connecting with our fans in London and using the experience to further bond as a team.”
Regular season games have become something of an annual tradition in the UK in recent years. In 2011, the Raptors and Nets played a two-game series there. Two years later, the Knicks and Pistons played a game there. Every year since then, the league has played at least one regular season game at the O2 Arena.
Washington has played several preseason games overseas over the years, including a game in 2013 in Brazil against the Bulls, but this will be the first time they’ve played a regular season game outside of North America. It will be the Knicks’ first game overseas since their 2013 game against Detroit.
