Wizards invite Robert Williams to pre-draft workout

The Wizards announced they are bringing in Texas A&M big man Robert Williams for a pre-draft workout on Monday. Unlike the Wizards’ other pre-draft workouts during the build-up to the 2018 NBA Draft, Williams will be working out solo.

Williams has been connected to the Wizards quite a bit in mock drafts because Washington has a clear need for a young big man, and there aren’t many in the 10-20 range of the draft. He doesn’t have some of the dynamic offensive skills that are in high-demand with big men these days, he shows a lot of promise as a Clint Capela/DeAndre Jordan type center who can be effective as a rim-runner, protect the paint on defense, and guard multiple positions in a switching system.

It’s pretty easy to see how Williams would fit in Washington’s system, the big question is how he’ll adjust to the NBA. He was inconsistent during his two years with the Aggies and was suspended for the first two games of last season after violating university policy. If he isn’t ready to codntribute right away, Washington will still need to make other moves to infuse mdore youth in their aging frontcourt.
