Wizards Mock offseason

I'm as big of a Wizards fan as anyone, but boy do they need some help next year. Boston and Philly are only gonna improve, and if Lebron resigns with Cleveland the absolute highest seed the wizards get is fourth. Luckily, I can not only help the wizards next year, but in future years as well.

Trade 1: Wizards send Ian Mahinmi and Jodie Meeks to the Magic for Bismack Biyombo.

Not a flashy trade, but their is logic to it. Mahinmi will never perform in Washington, he simply does not play well. Meeks is basically useless because of his suspension and shoddy defense, but he is an expiring contract and a proven sniper. The Magic do this to add a shooter and an expiring contact while ridding themselves of Biyombo's fat contract. They could also just stretch Mahinmi. The wizards take on a bloated contract, but Biyombo is the athletic rim protector this team needs and John Wall wants.

Trade 2: Wizards send Marcin Gortat, Jason Smith, Tomas Satoransky, and a top 20 protected first rounder in 2019 to the Grizzlies for Pick 4 and Chandler Parsons.

I hate giving up three fan favorites for chandler parsons, but at least the wizards keep Kelly Oubre. If the Grizzlies ask for Oubre, then this trade shouldn't happen. The Wizards are doing the Grizzlies a huge favor by taking on Parsons obnoxiously large contract, so therefore we keep our 15th pick and best asset. The 2019 pick is a sweetener, and the Grizzlies should be thankful for a chance to get it as their 2019 pick is going to Boston. Gortat is productive, Satoransky is a 6'7 point guard who can shoot, distribute, and defend 3 positions who is on a cheap contract at a young age. Smith is salary filler, but just like Gortat, he is on an expiring contract that will save the Grizzlies major money next summer. Smith is also an excellent teammate. As for the Wizards, we can stretch Parsons for all I care, but if he is kept then hoping he can return to his Houston/Dallas form is the only thing that can be done. Obviously, the fourth pick provides us with a potential superstar on a cheap contract.

Ok, so here's the downside. The wizards just took on a lot of long term money. But here's a trade that might satisfy the problem.

Trade 3: Wizards trade John Wall, Markieff Morris and Kelly Oubre to the pelicans for Jrue Holiday, Etwaun Moore, and and a 2019 top 10 protected first round pick.

This would really shake things up. It hurts to lose Kelly, but he's up for a pay raise the Wizards probably can't make. John Walls supermax pays him something obscene like 46 mil and will clog up cap space. This is not good with long term contracts from Otto Porter, Bradley Beal, Bismack Biyombo, and Chandler Parsons. The Pelicans get a superstar point guard and a reason to resign Boogie. They also get an athletic forward who can shoot, create his own shot (maybe) and defend 4 positions. Markieff Morris and John Wall have great chemistry and should fit in well with Boogie and AD. The Wizards get Jrue Holiday, a great all around point guard with little to no weaknesses in his game. He should be an all star in the east. Etwaun moore can shoot and is on an expiring contract. The wizards now have 2 first rounders in 2019.

It's time for the draft, where the wizards hold the fourth overall pick, the fifteenth overall pick, and the forty fourth overall pick.

Pick 4 - Jaren Jackson Jr.

Pick 15 - Shai Gilgeous Alexander

Pick 44 - Kostas Antetoukounmpo

If Jakson is there at 4, then he's the pick. With the highest upside in the draft, his athleticism, switchability, rim protection, and shooting just sceams unicorn. And he's only 18.

Gilgeous Alexander is a 6'6 point guard who can play with holiday and Beal. He should be a lights out defender and secondary scorer and distributor.

The wizards should take a flier on Kostas and see if they can mold him into the frontcourt partner for Jackson. If nothing else, Kostas' athleticism, genes, and defense should give him a chance at being a rotation player.

Free agency

The only 2 players resigned will be Ty Lawson and Mike Scott. If the wizards have cap space or the taxpayers MLE, then they should sign a wing, preferably one with experience. If the wizards have the MLE, I'd sign James Ennis. If they don't, I'd sign Dante Cunningham to a minimum contract. To keep this realistic, let's go with Cunningham. I'd also test Alex Len's market and see what his price tag is. So, let's say the wizards sign Len, Cunningham, and Lawson in free agency.

Let's recap and analyze the roster.

PG- Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson, Shai Gilgeous Alexander

SG- Bradley Beal, Etwaun Moore, Shai Gilgeous Alexander

SF- Otto Porter Jr., Dante Cunningham, Shai Gilgeous Alexander

PF- Jaren Jackson, Mike Scott, Chandler Parsons

C- Bismack Biyombo, Alex Len, Kostas Antetoukounmpo

That's thirteen players, so maybe the wizards sign Devin Robinson or someone else for a vet minimum. The starting five is young, athletic, can shoot, and play defense. Well rounded, no weakness, plenty of starpower. Those reserves are looking way better than what was had previously. Lawson can score and distribute, Etwaun Moore and Cunningham fulfill three and D, Mike Scott can be a volume Scorer, and maybe Alex Len can settle into a purely lob catching and rim protecting role with Lawson's pinpoint passing prowess. SGA can pick up garbage time minutes, and his versatility might him see the court against weaker opponents. Parsons is not needed and should be stretched, but the Wiz may stick it out for one year knowing he becomes an expiring contract in 2020. Same goes for Biyombo, who is taking minutes from Jackson's eventual position. But this roster looks championship made in my eyes.
