The Wizards announced the following six players will be in Washington for a pre-draft workout on Wednesday:
- Billy Preston - BC Igokea
- Trevon Bluiett - Xavier
- Corey Sanders - Rutgers
- Elijah Brown - Oregon
- Nana Foulland - Bucknell
- Tyler Nelson - Fairfield
There isn’t a sure-fire draft prospect in this group. Preston has nice upside, but he’s currently 69th on ESPN’s Big Board, which is not ideal in a 60 player draft. Bluiett and Sanders are both in the 90’s. The other three prospects are off the board entirely.
Presumably, Bluiett and Sanders will be high on the Wizards’ list of players to consider for Summer League and training camp, but Preston is the key guy to follow here. Preston was a McDonald’s All-American, but didn’t get a chance to play in college this season due to NCAA eligibility issues. He wound up signing a deal with BC Igokea in Bosnia to get some playing time but he joined the team so late that he was only able to play 47 minutes over three games.
In the Wizards’ wide-ranging search for a big man this summer, they may need to explore some unconventional avenues to find some young talent. We’ll see if he makes enough of an impression to earn consideration for the Wizards with the 45th pick, or if they try to make something happen if he goes undrafted.
