Keys to the game
From tip-off, be ready
The Mystics have struggled with slow starts to games this season. However, last week when the Lynx were in town, they showed us that they are capable of coming out with guns blazing. Although they wound up losing the game, the momentum they started with allowed for them to compete with defending WNBA champs. Going, into this game, we already know that the Connecticut Sun is really good so Washington needs to set the tone early to let their opponents know they’re aren’t going down without a fight.
Defense is key because the Sun can score
Scoring is not a problem for this Sun team. They average 93 points a game while their opponents only average 77 points. In Washington’s last match-up against Connecticut, the Sun shot 47 percent from the field and made 10 3-pointers. The Mystics must put pressure on Jasmine Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Chiney Ogwumike, and Courtney Williams the entire game because it’s a matter of how much they score not if they score.
The Mystics need Delle Donne
Having EDD start last game absolutely boosted the team’s morale from tip-off. She played last game after missing 3 previous games due to a stomach flu. It was evident that she wasn’t 100 percent during the Lynx game but hopefully she’s had enough rest time to make a full recovery. If there’s a chance the Mystics win this game, it’s with Delle Donne playing.
