Potentilal offseason moves: Turning Meeks' & Smith's expiring contracts into rotation pieces

Jodie Meeks and Jason Smith both have player options for the 2018-2019 season. Fans have already began to complain about the almost $9 million owed to these two players. And rightfully so, $9million is a lot of money for two guys who are basically out of the rotation.

But rejoice! The Wizards can turn this negative into a positive this summer (or during the 2019 trade deadline). Meeks & Smith provide the Wizards with $9 million in expiring contracts. And expiring contracts have value in the NBA. I have come up with two potential trades that would turn these non rotation players into one playable NBA wing.

Trade 1: Norman Powell for Meeks & Smith.

In the 2018-2019 season Powell will be entering year one of a 4 yr $42 million extension. Norm had some good moments early in his career but has fallen out of Toronto's rotation. OG Anunoby & CJ Miles have taken most of his minutes. Toronto may not want to pay Norm so much money to sit on the bench. Instead, this trade would provide Toronto with some cap relief after the 2018-2019 season. And for the Wizards, they get a player that can play the 2 or 3 position and allows Beal to not play Lebron level minutes.

Trade 2: Tony Snell for Meeks & Smith

Admittedly, I'm not sure the Bucks would agree to this trade. Snell has had his ups and downs but is still a part of their rotation. But Snell has 3 more years left on his contract. This trade would allow the Bucks to get off Snell's money much faster. For the Wizards Snell provides two things: defense and three point shooting. Could Snell turn into Ariza with the John Wall boost? (probably not but a fan can dream). At the very least, Snell could provide some backup wing minutes if Oubre is moved into the starting lineup.

Both of these are modest trades but would make the wizards a little bit better and a little bit younger. What do you think? And can you come up with better trade packages using our $9 million in expiring contracts
