Wizards’ Thursday Pre-Draft workout features several local prospects

NCAA Basketball: Miami at George Washington Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Wizards are bringing in six more draft prospects for a workout on Thursday and there seems to be a clear theme:

  • Marcus Derrickson, Georgetown
  • Yuta Watanabe, George Washington
  • Phillip Carr, Morgan State
  • Junior Robinson, Mount St. Mary’s
  • James Daniel III, Tennessee
  • Junior Etou, Tulsa

Four of the six are from colleges in D.C. or Maryland, and the other two have connections to the area as well. Daniel III grew up in Hampton, Virginia and played four years at Howard before heading to Tennessee as a graduate transfer. Etou played high school in the area as well, as you may recall, and played under former Wizards coach Eddie Jordan at Rutgers before transferring to Tulsa.

The local flair will have to make up for the lack of draft talent in the workout. None of the players in this workout are projected to be selected in the draft. This workout is likely more about scouting out players who could be potential fits for Washington’s Summer League team, as well as players who could be options for the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards’ new G-League team which will begin play in the fall.
