What to Watch for

Is this the night?

The Wizards haven’t won a game in San Antonio since 1999, when Mitch Richmond went off for 31 points to lift the 5-16 Wizards to a 99-88 win in the Alamodome. This may be Washington’s best chance to break the streak. Kawhi Leonard has missed almost the whole season and the Spurs are on pace to have their first season without 50 wins since the strike-shortened 1998-99 season.

It’s never easy to break what feels like an endless cycle though. Washington will have to pull out all the stops to get a win in a hostile environment.

Can the Wizards make a bargain?

[Porter Strange is in the Dark Dimension with Popovich, a tyrant hellbent on overtaking Earth and ruling all dimensions. What Popovich doesn’t know is that Strange has used his powers to trap him in an infinite time loop until he can save Earth from Popovich’s wrath.]

Porter Strange: Popovich! I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: YOU’VE COME TO DIE! YOUR WORLD IS MY WORLD, LIKE ALL WORLDS. [A highlight plays of Terry Porter—yes, Terry Porter—hitting a three in the Spurs’ 102-78 win over the Wizards in 2001 as Porter Strange is obliterated.]

Porter Strange: [Reappearing out of nowhere] Popovich! I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: YOU’VE COME TO DIE! YOUR WORLD IS MY WORLD... Wait, what is this? Illusion?

Porter Strange: No, this is real.

Popovich: Good! [Clips play of Michael Jordan going 8-of-20 in Wizards’ 92-81 loss to the Spurs in 2002 as Porter Strange is obliterated.]

Porter Strange: [Reappearing out of nowhere] Popovich! I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: YOU... what is happening?

Porter Strange: Just as you gave Ginobilius powers from your dimension, I’ve brought a little power from mine. This is time. Endless, looped time.

Popovich: You dare! [Clips play of Gilbert Arenas going 6-of-19 from the field when the Wizards lost to the Spurs 94-72 in 2004 as Porter Strange is obliterated.]

Porter Strange: [Reappearing out of nowhere] Popovich! I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: You cannot do this forever.

Porter Strange: Actually I can. This is how things are now. You and me, trapped in this moment, endlessly.

Popovich: Then you will spend eternity dying.

Porter Strange: Yeah. But everyone on else in the league will live...besides the Kings. They’ve been dead for some time now.

Popovich: But you will suffer.

Porter Strange: Pain is an old friend. [A clip plays of Marcin Gortat trying to post up Tim Duncan as Porter Strange is obliterated.]

Porter Strange: [Reappearing out of nowhere] Popovich! I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: You will never win.

Porter Strange: No... But I can lose. Again, and again, and again, and again, forever. And that makes you my prisoner.

Popovich: No. Stop! Make this stop!!! Set me free!

Porter Strange: No. I’ve come to bargain.

Popovich: Oh, what do you want?

Porter Strange: End your assault on my world. Never come back. Do it, and I’ll break the loop.

[A clip plays of Otto Porter missing a last second shot in the Wizards’ 107-105 loss to the Spurs as Porter Strange is obliterated again.]

A random moment in Wizards - Spurs history: Please, end the loop
