The NBA announced on Thursday evening that Bradley Beal will face off against Paul George, Klay Thompson, Kyle Lowry, Devin Booker, Wayne Ellington, Eric Gordon, and Tobias Harris in the 2018 Three Point Shootout.
In a strange twist, Beal earned his spot through his All-Star level play more than through his shooting stroke. He has the second-lowest 3-point percentage among this year’s eight participants, only behind Eric Gordon, the defending champion of the contest. Still, there’s no question Beal is one of the more respected shooters in the league and will be among the favorites to win.
It will help that this isn’t Beal’s first rodeo. He was also invited to the shootout in 2014, when he finished runner-up to Marco Belinelli.
The shootout will take place on February 17 in Los Angeles.
