What to Watch for

Look out for Otto Porter Jr. shooting threes

In the Wizards’ last game against Dallas, we finally saw the impressive shooting from Porter Jr. that Coach Scott Brooks was talking about at Media Day. Porter Jr. scored 19 points, going 5-of-6 from behind the arc. The small forward might have his shooting groove back and while the Wizards could have used it earlier, it’s better late than never.

Right now, Troy Brown Jr. is somehow leading the Wizards in three-point field goal percentage thanks to making two of his three attempts from deep. No one who has attempted more than ten attempts this season is averaging over 37 percent. Hopefully someone who has more opportunities to shoot in games like Porter Jr. can become reliable from the three-point line for this team.

The Magic can’t fully count on its bench right now

Terrence Ross is the exception as he put up 15 points coming off of the bench against his team’s loss on Wednesday to the Pistons. Everyone else on the bench, however, did not please Coach Steve Clifford. Ross aside, the Magic’s bench players went 1-of-14 and turned the ball over 8 times.

“You can’t play five guys and win, and everybody’s got to be ready to play,’’ said Clifford post game. “Let’s just tell the story. The bench was embarrassing. It was embarrassing, that’s it.’’

This season, the Magic are relying heavily on its starters so that’s where Washington needs to channel its’ focus. Nicola Vucevic, Evan Fournier, and Aaron Gordon are leading Orlando with an average of 17.5, 16.6, and 16.0 points per game respectively.
