Wizards vs. Clippers GameThread

A five game home stand ends tonight as the Wizards host the Clippers at 7 p.m. EST tonight. Watch the game on NBC Sports Washington. Listen to the game on Federal News Radio 1500 AM or the Wizards Mobile App.

Long-time Wizards center Marcin Gortat returns to his stomping grounds at Capital One Arena where he will be matching up against Dwight Howard, his replacement in D.C. Ironically, both Howard and Gortat were on the Magic in the late 2000’s, when Howard was one of the top centers in the NBA and Gortat was his backup.

Unfortunately, it’s also the apparent end of a tradition the Wizards held each season: Polish Heritage Night. Over the last five seasons, Gortat has played a major part hosting Polish soldiers and pop culture stars and a post-game Q&A. It’s one of the Wizards’ most popular games over the years.

The Wizards hosted their 2018 Polish Heritage Night last January, so it makes sense that there isn’t such a night in the 2018-19 NBA season given that the Clippers are coming in November 2018. But if Gortat still plays in the NBA in the next few seasons, it’s unclear whether these nights will continue. I hope they do.

Anyway, that’s it from me. Go Wizards!
