Daily Digits is a new daily feature we’re doing at Bullets Forever this year where we take a look at stats about the Wizards. We’ll dive into the numbers, add some context, and discuss how it affects the product on the court.
Today’s stat is the Wizards’ field goal percentage in the restricted area against the Heat last season, which was...
55.8%
The Wizards were above-average at scoring in the restricted area last season—they shot 63.9 percent in that zone, good for the 11th-best percentage in the league last season—but the Heat made them look mediocre in all four meetings last season. The only teams who held the Wizards to a lower percentage last season were all in the Western Conference and only played the Wizards twice, which makes it easy for one game to wildly skew the numbers.
Washington has had issues with Miami’s interior defense for several years, largely due to Hassan Whiteside’s presence, but last year they still shut Washington down even though he missed a game and averaged under 30 minutes per game in the other three.
We’ll see if the Wizards can take a step in the right direction in Friday’s game against the Heat.
