Wizards vs. Grizzlies GameThread

NBA: Phoenix Suns at Memphis Grizzlies Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

The Wizards will finish their five game road trip against the Memphis Grizzlies. Tip off is at 8 p.m. ET. You can watch it on NBC Sports Washington or listen on Federal News Radio 1500 AM and the Wizards mobile app.

There is a lot of bad news to go around the Wizards, and I’ll step away from that with this post and touch on something more positive, even if I have to write a bit more about the other team.

The Grizzlies are not expected to be among the NBA’s best, but they are 3-2 early in the season. Memphis also signed a local college basketball star as well. George Washington star Yuta Watanabe to a two-way contract, where he is starting his season with the NBA team instead of the G-League.

Watanabe played four years for the Colonials, where he averaged 16.3 points a game in his senior season when he was also named the A-10’s Defensive Player of the Year. Unfortunately, GW finished the year 15-18, so we weren’t able to see them in the postseason tournaments like the NCAA or NIT. Watanabe is also the second Japanese-born player to make it to the NBA. He only played in one regular season game so far, so we can expect to see him play more for the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G-League affiliate very soon.

Anyway, that’s it from me. Go Wizards!
