Daily Digits: Kelly Oubre’s game is trending down at the wrong time

Daily Digits is a new daily feature we’re doing at Bullets Forever this year where we take a look at stats about the Wizards. We’ll dive into the numbers, add some context, and discuss how it affects the product on the court.

Today’s stat is Kelly Oubre’s 3-point percentage over his last 20 games (including regular season, the playoffs, and the first four games of preseason) which is...

18.6%

Last season, Oubre put together the best performance of his young career at Little Caesar’s Arena, dropping 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting to help the Wizards pick up an important road win over the Pistons. On Wednesday, he returned and put together the latest in a string of disappointing performances stretching back to the second half of last season.

Oubre only scored 2 points while shooting 1-of-6 from the field and going 0-of-4 from deep, in a game that Scott Brooks treated like the team’s dress rehearsal before the regular season. Through the first four games of the preseason, Oubre is shooting under 40 percent from the field, under 20 percent from deep and averaging more turnovers than assists, even while playing a lot of minutes against opposing teams’ second and third units.

There’s still plenty of time for Oubre to turn things around, but he can’t afford to stay in this slump for too long with everything that’s on the line this summer.
