Even though Washington’s 98-75 loss to the Mavericks wasn’t a very competitive game, it got testy at several different points throughout the game. The referees called four technical fouls during the game, including one on J.J. Barea in the fourth quarter after he and John Wall got into an argument.
The war of words spilled over into post-game comments when both players were asked about the incident. Here’s what Wall had to say, as reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN:
“Just a little midget trying to get mad. I don’t pay him no mind.”
In a different situation, we’d probably talk more about Wall’s choice of words there and how it’s probably something you wouldn’t say if you truly didn’t pay that person any mind. However, that’s another discussion for another day because Barea had a pretty devastating response when he was told about what Wall said.
“Now I have somebody in the NBA that I don’t like. That’s my first. I don’t like him at all now. But I don’t think his teammates like him, either. So it’s nothing new for him.”
Barea is probably just going off the same information we all got about the Wizards’ unproductive players-only meeting, but that’s still a devastating quote. If that’s the perception of the team going around the league, it’s only going to get more difficult for Wall and Beal to get named to the All-Star Game, and it will be more challenging for them to recruit players who can help them get to the next level.
