On Monday, we went through Marcin Gortat’s Top 5 performances as a Wizard. Now, let’s go through five more moments from his time in D.C. so far.

Gortat won Eastern Conference Player of the Week from December 21-27, 2015

John Wall won Eastern Conference player of December in 2015, but Gortat had an excellent week of his own toward the end of the month when he won player of the week. It’s not like he only played two games. The Wizards played four games in this stretch when he averaged 21.3 points and 11.7 rebounds!

He held Roy Hibbert to 0 points and 0 rebounds in Game 1 of the Wizards-Pacers 2nd round 2014 playoff series

I stand by my belief that Gortat’s best game in the Pacers playoff series was in Game 5. But in Game 1, he held Roy Hibbert to no points. But Hibbert also failed to grab a single rebound! The 2014 NBA Playoffs weren’t a great experience for Hibbert overall, but that Game 1 performance is one he’d love to forget.

Gortat was 4th among Eastern Conference frontcourt players in 2015 NBA All-Star Returns

In the 2014-15 season, Gortat had 570,005 votes for the All-Star Game and was fourth in the returns among Eastern Conference frontcourt players. Unfortunately, he didn’t get one of the Top-3 spots, but it’s an uphill battle when the Top-3 guys were LeBron James, Pau Gasol, and Carmelo Anthony.

He also didn’t make the All-Star Game as a reserve, which I thought was unfortunate. Given his consistency over the year, I feel he should have received a nod once! I really do.

Gortat gave free game tickets to fans who went to the Polish Embassy in Washington

In 2016, Gortat made an impromptu offer where three lucky visitors to the Polish Embassy would get a pair of tickets to Polish Heritage Night that year. He and then-Ambassador Ryszard Schnepf took pictures with each of the three fans

I even talked to Douglas Reyes-Ceyon, the first winner in that giveaway. He’s the one pictured above! When Douglas arrived in the Embassy, the staff cheered as if he was Marcin instead. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Gortat isn’t the only player from the European Union on a Washington professional basketball team. I’m still waiting on Ian Mahinmi to do this at the French Embassy, Tomas Satoransky to do this at the Czech Embassy, and Emma Meesseman to do this at the Belgian Embassy.

C’mon guys!

And he joined the Celtics’ huddle during a regular season game

The Celtics are one of the Wizards’ most heated rivals today. But back in 2014, things weren’t quite so bad. In fact, Gortat got hang out in Boston’s huddle for a quick second on April 2, 2014.

He would later explain how it alllllllll happened.
