Randy Wittman, who holds the best playoff winning percentage of any coach in Wizards franchise history, has reportedly joined the Orlando Magic as a coaching consultant, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

After he was dismissed as the Wizards coach at the end of the 2015-16 season, Wittman took last season off to focus on recovering from hip and knee replacement surgeries.

It’s unclear what exactly Wittman will be doing in his new role, but he’ll certainly be asked to help improve Orlando’s defense. Last season, the Magic finished 24th in defensive efficiency.

What’s interesting here is that there also isn’t a clear tie between Vogel and Wittman. Though they both have past ties to Orlando and Indiana, they’ve never been on a coaching staff together. However, they did go head-to-head in the 2014 Eastern Conference Semifinals when Vogel’s Pacers took down down Wittman’s Wizards in six games.

Though the Wizards are in a better place now with Scott Brooks, it’s still good to see Wittman back in the league. He has a clear passion for the game and he could certainly help the Magic as they try to turn things around, especially on the defensive end.
