The Czech Republic lost on Saturday to Spain, 93-56. Tomas Satoransky scored 8 points on 3 of 12 shooting, but also grabbed 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss.

The Czechs were steamrolled in the beginning of this game as Spain as Pau Gasol and Ricky Rubio shot a combined 9 for 9 from the floor. When it was all said and done, Pau Gasol scored 26 points on 9 of 10 shooting in just 20 minutes of game time while Rubio added 17 points and 5 assists.

When we know that stars on an overmatched teams lose to juggernaut opponents, it’s important to see if those players were contributing in other areas. Satoransky’s shot wasn’t there today, but part of the reason was because he was playing a much better team that knew he was the best scoring option for the Czechs.

Satoransky still led the Czechs in assists and tied for the lead in rebounds with 5, so we can tell that he’s trying to contribute where he can. However, we’ll need to see more players step up in future games so these kind of losses won’t happen as they continue group play.
