The Wizards officially announced that they signed Otto Porter by matching his offer sheet from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. In a press release, President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld said the following:
“Otto has developed into a vital part of our young core, which is why we made it clear that our priority was to keep him here to maintain continuity and build on the success of this group heading into next season and beyond,” Grunfeld said. “His versatility, basketball IQ and three-point shooting combine to make him a great fit for us on the floor while his character and work in the community show why we’re so pleased to have him as a cornerstone of our franchise.”
Porter also added that he was “excited to be staying home.”
With the Wizards signing Porter to a large sophomore extension along with John Wall and Bradley Beal, the three will form the core foundation for years to come. Though the Wizards have committed a lot of cap space to retain all three players, it’s also important to note that they are just entering their primes. Therefore, I hope that the best of the Wizards is yet to come.
Once again, welcome back Otto!
