The Wizards announced six players will join them on Tuesday for predraft workouts at the Verizon Center. They are:
- Kris Jenkins - Villanova
- Przemek Karnowski - Gonzaga
- Marcus Keene - Central Michigan
- Landen Lucas - Kansas
- Xavier Rathan-Mayes - Florida State
- Justin Robinson - Monmouth
The two household names on here are Jenkins and Karnowski. You probably remember Jenkins as the man who hit the buzzer-beating shot that lifted Villanova to a win over North Carolina in the 2016 National Championship.
You may also remember Karnowski, the Polish big man who helped carry Gonzaga to the 2017 title game before they were taken down by the Tar Heels.
Karnowski is also a member of the Polish national team, where he backs up the team’s starting center, Marcin Gortat. Back in April, Gortat spoke with Adi Joseph of For The Win about what Karnowski brings to the table and the challenges he could face on the NBA level:
FTW: Do you think he will make the NBA?
Gortat: Well, it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be tough. He knows this. The NBA is going in a different direction, different game than he’s playing right now. It’s not going to be easy for him, but there’s always a chance. Obviously, I’m cheering for him, I’m hoping he’s going to make it.
Karnowski, Jenkins, and the other four participants are currently not listed in DraftExpress Top 100 Rankings, so it’s unlikely any of Tuesday’s participants will be selected on June 23. However, with Summer League on the horizon and the way rosters are expanding with two-way contracts, there’s still a chance some of these players could factor into the Wizards’ future plans.
