The Hawks have been granted permission by the Wizards to interview Tommy Sheppard for their open team president role, per NBA insider Marc Stein.
The Atlanta Hawks were granted permission to interview Wizards executive Tommy Sheppard for their front office search, league sources say.

This comes after Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer decided to cede his presidential power over the organization to focus more on coaching and making the pieces he has work.
It’s that time of year again. There are only four teams left playing basketball and everyone else has their mind already on next season. Sheppard would be a solid addition for Atlanta and a significant loss in the front office for Washington.
In his role as the senior vice president of the organization, Sheppard has played a role in contract negotiations as well as talent evaluation for Washington over the years under current Team President Ernie Grunfeld. Last season was Sheppard’s 14th season with the organization.
Sheppard is a highly regarded executive around the league and has been considered for a presidential role in the past. Last year, the Brooklyn Nets considered Sheppard for their general manager position before hiring Sean Marks away from San Antonio.
It is hard to believe Sheppard has lasted this long in his role with the Wizards considering how highly regarded he is. An interview does not necessarily mean Sheppard will be hired, but it is another step in the process and another position the Wizards may have to fill for next season.
