Wizards trade target Lou Williams dealt to Rockets for first round pick

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Los Angeles Lakers Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Cross one trade target off the Wizards’ list. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical is reporting the Lakers are trading Lou Williams to the Rockets in exchange for Corey Brewer and a first round pick.

In recent days, the Wizards had reportedly mulled offering a protected first round pick to acquire Williams. There’s no word on whether or not the Wizards did end up offering their first round pick (which is currently three slots ahead of Houston’s) but even if they had, it would have been difficult to beat Houston’s offer. Corey Brewer hasn’t played well this season, but he’s better than the salary filler the Wizards could have offered, and he’s only under contract for one more year, unlike Andrew Nicholson or Jason Smith who both have multiple years left.

Now that Williams is off the board, the Wizards will have to set their eyes on other targets. Will Barton, Bojan Bogdanovic, and P.J. Tucker seem like the most sensical options at the moment, but plenty can change between now and Thursday afternoon.
