The accolades keep rolling in for the Wizards. The NBA announced on Wednesday afternoon that Scott Brooks was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month.
The Wizards posted the best record in the conference in January, going 12-4. The only team in the league who finished with a better record was the Warriors, who went 12-2, led by the Western Conference Coach of the Month, Steve Kerr.
Washington’s impressive month included an especially dominant stretch at the end of the month that was noted by the team in their announcement that Brooks had received the award:
The Wizards held the lead from the 9:50 mark in the first quarter at Charlotte on 1/23 until :51.2 in the third quarter at New Orleans on 1/29, marking the longest such streak by a team in the NBA this season. The Wizards’ lead spanned four games and a total of 169 minutes and 8.8 seconds.
Brooks is the first Wizards coach to receive Coach of the Month honors since Eddie Jordan was honored in December 2006 after guiding the Wizards to a 12-4 record that month.
