Mike Scott led a banged up Wizards squad to a 100-91 win over a significantly more banged up Clippers squad on Friday night.

The Clippers entered Friday’s game missing five players, including Blake Griffin, Danilo Gallinari and Milos Teodosic. Almost everyone was available for Washington, but several players (John Wall, Markieff Morris and Ian Mahinmi) were shaking off the rust from recent injuries. To make things worse, Otto Porter bruised his thigh early in the game and didn’t return.

Washington hobbled out of the gates initially, but then raced out to a big lead thanks to a 13-0 near the end of the first quarter, followed by a 14-0 run early in the second quarter. After that, the team went dormant, scoring only 9 points over the final 6:47 of the half which allowed the Clippers to keep the game from getting out of hand.

In the fourth quarter, Jawun Evans spearheaded a 15-6 run for the Clippers to tie the game up with under six minutes left, but Washington flipped from the first half over the final few minutes, finishing on an 18-9 run highlighted by and-one shots by John Wall and Kelly Oubre to put the game away.

Mike Scott was too good

Scott had another ridiculous night, scoring 22 points on 9 of 10 shooting. Over the past six games, he’s shooting 34 of 43 from the field (79.0 percent). He made plenty of tough shots during the game, but also benefited from some easy looks in transition like this one:

The only downside is you know at some point he will endure a rough stretch to balance all of this out. Hopefully it comes at a point in the season when the Wizards don’t need him to be quite this good to hold on against struggling teams.

Game Notes

• Otto Porter only played 3:04 after getting hurt early in the game.

Porter’s hips given him issues in the past. It will be interesting to see how Washington manages this moving forward, especially with big games against Cleveland and Boston on the horizon.

• Markieff Morris wasn’t hurt, but he was hampered by foul trouble throughout the game, which limited him to just 21 minutes. Washington effectively played with 3.5 starters tonight, and Beal was the only one of the three who played well.
