According to J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic, the Wizards have decided to fully guarantee the contracts of their undrafted rookies: Sheldon McClellan, Daniel Ochefu and Danuel House. They will make the minimum of $543,000 this season. Their contracts were officially guaranteed as of 5 p.m. ET on Saturday.
This was a good move for the Wizards. With the three rookies, they have some depth on their struggling bench. Down the road, they could possibly be potential trade assets for other teams, especially next season when NBA rosters can have a maximum of 17 players instead of the current 15.
McClellan has already received a decent amount of minutes off the bench. He even started one game in place of a once injured Bradley Beal.
Daniel Ochefu has been used as a third center behind Marcin Gortat and Jason Smith. So far, Ochefu generall plays when someone is in foul trouble or in garbage time. He has appeared in eight games for the Wizards this season but hasn’t done much.
Danuel House has been held out due to injuries, his latest injury is a broken wrist that has kept him out since mid-November. Hopefully, he’ll be able to give John Wall and Bradley Beal a little more rest once he is cleared to return.
