The Mystics came out ahead in the 2017 WNBA Draft Lottery and will pick second in next year’s draft. They had just a 10.4 percent chance to pick first, and had the fourth highest odds of getting the number one pick. In other words, they had the lowest chance of coming out ahead, but they did.
In a press release by Monumental Sports, GM and Head Coach Mike Thibault said the following:
This is also the first time that the Mystics moved up in the Draft Lottery in franchise history relative to their position in the standings. It is also their highest draft pick since the 2009 season when they picked Maryland forward Marissa Coleman with the second pick in the Draft.
Here is the order of the Top four picks in the 2017 WNBA Draft:
- San Antonio Stars
- Washington Mystics
- Dallas Wings
- Los Angeles Sparks (via Connecticut Sun)
We’ll figure out who the Mystics will be more likely to draft once the college season is underway. But again, this is great news for a franchise that certainly needs some luck after doing practically everything else right these last several years.
