The Wizards are coming off a 41-41 season, so you wouldn’t expect John Wall and Bradley Beal to factor heavily into the MVP discussion before we’ve gotten a chance to see if they’ve taken a step forward from last season. That said, the early odds for John Wall and Bradley Beal are ... not great.
John Wall currently has 50/1 odds of winning MVP next season, according to Bovada. That puts him at the same odds as Draymond Green and last year’s Rookie of the Year, Karl-Anthony Towns. It puts him behind Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, and Kyrie Irving among point guards in MVP odds but ahead of Kyle Lowry and Isaiah Thomas, who finished at 66/1 odds.
Bradley Beal opened at 125/1 odds for MVP, which puts him on equal footing with Andrew Wiggins, Andre Drummond, and Kevin Love. Shooting guards James Harden, Dwyane Wade, DeMar DeRozan, and Jimmy Butler all currently have better odds.
The only real surprise with Wall and Beal’s early MVP odds is how similar they are to last season. Wall opened the 2015-16 season with 50/1 odds and Beal started at 150/1. What this really should go to show is where Wall and Beal stand in the NBA hierarchy compared to last season. From the looks of things, neither player took much of a hit despite last season’s struggles.
