The 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner was on Saturday in Washington, D.C. President Barack Obama spoke to the audience, which consisted of political reporters, media agencies, and some celebrities. We shared with you earlier that John Wall attended the dinner with his mother, Frances Pulley. He even got to take a picture with model (and Kardashian family member) Kendall Jenner.
During the speech, President Obama made light of himself as he reflected on life after his presidency ends on January 20, 2017. He showed a video to the audience showing the "Commander in Chief" becoming "The Couch Commander," since he intends on staying in Washington for another couple years to allow his youngest daughter to finish high school here. The video is embedded above, via C-SPAN's YouTube Channel.
At the 1:03 mark of the video, Vice President Joe Biden suggested to the President that he should consider coaching a team around the Washington area. In the next scene, Obama made a phone call when he said, "Is this the Washington Wizards? I understand you're looking for some coaching help."
The video was probably made before last Tuesday when Scott Brooks was officially announced as the Wizards' head coach. Or maybe Obama wanted to be an assistant on Brooks' staff. Either way, I honestly thought the line was funny given that President Obama is a big basketball fan, and it's a relatable story to us.
We also see subsequent scenes of the President at the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, posting an ill-advised Snapchat video and watching Toy Story with former House Speaker John Boehner. Though all of those scenes are funny in and of themselves, the coaching line is what I will remember the most as a Wizards fan.
