Emma Meesseman sputtered in her first game for Sparta&K Moscow region Vidnoje, against French club Nantes Reze last week, when they lost 60-57. On January 28, 2016, she put up some very uncharacteristic numbers: 3 of 11 shooting and four turnovers.
Meesseman did contribute eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block, as well as, shooting 6 of 6 from the free throw line to keep the game close. It doesn't hurt if the 'Robin' (Maria Vadeeva) to your 'Batman' scores 18 points, on 8 of 13 shooting and nine rebounds. Check out Meesseman's and Vadeeva's box score from FIBA here.
That brings us to today, February 4, 2016, and the eagerly anticipated rematch of the two teams. Well, all I can say is that I think Meesseman had revenge on her mind as Sparta&K blew out Nantes Reze, 82-64. The aggregate or combined score of 139 to 124 also catapults them to the EuroCup Women Quarterfinals. Check out this week's box score from FIBA here.
In the win, Meesseman scored 20 points, had nine rebounds, dished three assists, grabbed three steals, and blocked three shots. Finally, she had zero turnovers. And let's not forget to mention Vadeeva's contribution, she scored 17 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished five assists, and blocked three more shots.
Great job to Sparta&K! Look forward to watching you roll through the Quarterfinals.
