Wizards vs. 76ers Preview: Washington heads to Philly looking for first preseason win

New, comments
NBA: Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Wizards hit the road for the first time this preseason, taking on the 76ers in Philadelphia on Thursday night. The Wizards won’t be playing against the number one overall pick from this past summer’s draft, Ben Simmons, as the rookie broke his foot in training camp. However, the Wizards players will see the No. 3 pick of the 2014 draft in Joel Embiid for the first time.

The Wizards will be eyeing a bounceback effort defensively after allowing the Heat to shoot 55 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point range on Tuesday night.

Rookie Tomas Satoransky will be looking to string together two strong performances in a row after logging eight points, six assists and five rebounds in his Wizards preseason debut. Expect Kelly Oubre Jr. to come out in attack mode as the second-year player scored a team-high 16 points in the loss to Miami, but is on the hunt for more playing time.

Lastly, keep an eye out for players like Daniel Ochefu, Johnny O’Bryant III, Sheldon McClellan and Danuel House as those guys jockey for the final roster spot.

Most Likely Wizards Killer: Joel Embiid

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers-Media Day Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Embiid has never played against the Wizards so it would only be fitting if he had a monster showing in his first game against them, right? Even if he’s on a minutes limit, it might not take him long to make an impact, as Hassan Whiteside demonstrated on Friday.
