We've known for some time that the Wizards were going to wear Chinese New Year alternate uniforms this season, but now we finally have details on when we'll get to see them on the court.
The team announced they'll wear the uniforms on Wednesday, February 3 when the Wizards host the Warriors for a nationally televised game on ESPN. The Warriors will also be wearing Chinese New Year uniforms like they did when they played in Washington last season.
There will also be some other events going on at the Verizon Center to celebrate the Chinese New Year for the game, according to the team:
As part of the celebration of the Year of the Monkey presented by Maryland Live!, players will be introduced in Mandarin Chinese on the video board and will wear specially designed Chinese New Year shooting shirts that will be available for purchase that night at the Verizon Center Team Store.
There will be various concourse activities honoring Chinese culture, including traditional musicians, Chinese gifts and calligraphy. Chinese lanterns and banners will also be featured throughout F Street and halftime will feature a special Chinese dance performance.
It's nice to see the Wizards finally get to wear Chinese New Year uniforms, considering the team plays in the Chinatown area of D.C. Although the Chinese population in the area has dwindled in recent years, it's still good to see the team recognize the influence the culture has had on the area.
