The Czech Republic blew out Croatia on Sunday, 80-59 in a EuroBasket 2015 first round elimination game. With the win, the Czechs advance to the quarterfinals for the first time ever.
Tomas Satoransky and former Wizards player Jan Vesely have been the Czechs' cornerstone duo over the past several years. Once again, they were the primary catalysts as Satoransky had a double with 10 points and 11 assists.
I get that these numbers are against teams that generally don't have much NBA talent, but he could very well be a valuable part of the Wizards' guard rotation after he is expected to arrive in the 2016-17 season.
In addition, Vesely added 20 points and 13 rebounds. Air Wolf also made two out of three free throw attempts, so things were really going well for him.
Turnovers were what catapulted the Czechs to the blowout. The Croatians committed 24 of them which turned into 36 Czech points. Meanwhile, the Czechs only committed 12 themselves.
It's mildly disappointing to see that Poland isn't advancing as well, but it's always good to see a player affiliated with the Wizards organization playing in major international games and taking his team to unprecedented success.
The Czech Republic will play Serbia on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Serbia beat Finland, 94-81 in their first round matchup.
