The Washington Wizards will be inviting Jaleel Roberts, who played for the team in the Las Vegas Summer League, to training camp on an unguaranteed deal according to Real GM's Shams Charania and Keith Jarrett of the Asheville Citizen-Times.
Roberts played sparingly for the Wizards in Las Vegas, logging only 7 minutes in three games for the Wizards. Roberts was stuck behind Jarrid Famous, who later signed a partially guaranteed deal with the Mavericks, and Shawn Jones, who later signed a deal in Europe.
The Wizards already have 15 players signed to guaranteed contracts for the upcoming season, so it would be difficult for Roberts to make the roster this season. The Wizards would need to waive someone in order to clear a roster spot for Roberts to make the team.
If nothing else, signing Roberts gives the Wizards more time to see what Roberts has to offer and provide more depth during training camp. Beyond that, the Wizards can still keep an eye on him to see how he performs in the D-League or overseas. If he starts to blossom, the Wizards should be able to spot it sooner than other teams because they've invested time in him.
