Tuesday, April 21, 2015 was a great day for Washington, D.C. sports fans because the Wizards, Capitals, and Nationals all scored huge wins.
As you are aware, the Wizards beat the Raptors 117-106 in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series in the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs. Washington now leads the series, 2 to 0 as the series heads to Verizon Center on Friday. The only shame in that game was that fans across the United States couldn't watch this on basic cable.
Meanwhile, the Capitals beat the Islanders, 2-1 in Game 4 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series after Nicklas Backstrom scored the game-winning goal in overtime. The series is now tied 2-2 as the series heads back to Verizon Center on Thursday for Game 5. Check out Japers' Rink's recap by clicking here.
And finally, the Nationals beat the Cardinals, 2-1 on Tuesday in the 10th inning after Yunel Escobar hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Check out Federal Baseball's recap by clicking here. The Nationals have a 7-7 overall record.
Here's a cool fact if you didn't know it previously. The Lerner, Cohen, Tanenbaum family, which owns the Nationals is also a minority partner in Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Wizards and Capitals. Nationals primary owner Mark D. Lerner represents the family and his profile appears on Monumental Sports' website.
Anyway, it's really great to see that the Wizards and Capitals win playoff games on the same day -- and it's also great to see that the Nationals also got a W as well. Not only did all three teams win on the same day. They also did so within a few minutes of each other, and check out this piece from the D.C. Sports Bog. Wow!
