The NBA announced some changes to the national TV schedule as we enter 2015 which affect the Washington Wizards. Here's the first, straight from the press release:
Wednesday, January 14, 2015
The Washington at Chicago game will now be televised by ESPN. The Atlanta at Boston game will no longer be televised by ESPN.
While we empathize with the Hawks, who currently have the best record in the East and deserve more attention, you can understand why the Wizards-Bulls is slightly more appealing to national TV viewers than the Hawks going up against the Rondo-less Boston Celtics. The Wizards and Bulls are within half a game of each other in the standings, John Wall vs. Derrick Rose is always a great show, and the Wizards and Bulls have some bad blood. Please don't take out your rage on us, Kyle Korver.
Unfortunately, it wasn't all good news for the Wizards with the new changes. They're also losing a national game due to schedule shifting. Here's the announcement from the release:
Friday, March 6, 2015
The Phoenix at Brooklyn game time will be changed to 8:00 PM ET and will now be televised by ESPN. The Miami at Washington game will be changed to 7:00 PM ET and will no longer be televised by ESPN.
Apparently, despite Dwyane Wade still racking up All-Star votes and putting up some remarkable numbers, Wall vs. Wade just doesn't pull ratings the same way watching the Plumlee brothers face off does.
