NBA free agency rumors: Thabo Sefolosha comes to D.C. to meet with Wizards

But how serious was Washington's interest? Not that serious, and thus, Sefolosha signed elsewhere.

Wizards fans that are super zeroed-in to Twitter stirred when this came down the pike.

Monroe is the more tantalizing name, but the Wizards weren't going to sign him after agreeing to terms with Marcin Gortat, and it turns out he was only here to watch the WNBA game. Sefolosha, on the other hand, was here to discuss a possible deal, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge.

But hold your horses: Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears suggests nothing really happened.

The Wizards do have portions of their mid-level exception to offer, so not sure where the last part of that tweet came from. Regardless, Sefolosha certainly isn't the kind of person that merits an offer on the spot. He's a backup plan if Trevor Ariza bolts or becomes too expensive, nothing more.

Sefolosha had a rough, rough year last season, struggling through injury and shooting a brutal 32 percent from three-point range. He was almost unplayable in the postseason, as teams took advantage of his shooting struggles and slllllloooooowwwwww release to help on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. I'm sure even considering him inspires little confidence from some of you. I get that.

The upside, though, is that Sefolosha has been much better in the past. He shot 44 and 42 percent from three in the previous two seasons and was a key cog in Oklahoma City's rotation. His playoff struggles can partially be explained by a rushed recovery from a calf injury. He isn't exactly much of an offensive player even at his best and that release is still slllllllllooooooowwwwwww, but as cost-effective Ariza replacements go, you could definitely do worse.

Regardless, he's a backup plan at best.
