Sadly, we have to report some injury news in September yet again. Chris Singleton is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery on his left foot, the Wizards announced today. Singleton will miss all of training camp and likely the first couple weeks of the season as well.
Singleton fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, otherwise known as a Jones fracture. A quick Google search reveals that it's the same injury Rasheed Wallace was diagnosed with last February 27. Wallace sat two months with an undisclosed stress injury before it was revealed that he indeed had a fracture. He did not play the rest of the season.
The Wizards have been cautious with injuries over the past year, waiting until longer than expected to bring John Wall back last year, putting Nene on a minutes limit and slowly ramping up Bradley Beal's activity this summer after he suffered a stress injury at the end of the season.
This is a difficult setback for Singleton. Training camp was one of his last chances to prove that he should belong in the Wizards' future. Now, he'll be on the shelf as the October 30 deadline for the Wizards to pick up his fourth-year rookie option for 2014-15 passes.
