As you probably know, Otto Porter (BF scouting report | SBN scouting report) came to Washington D.C. to work out for the Wizards today. He, along with five others that included potential first-round pick Jackie Carmichael (SBN scouting report), spent time going through drills with Randy Wittman and the coaching staff.
I was supposed to check it out, but a late meeting and Finals coverage came up, so I missed it. These Monumental Network videos will have to do.
Here's Porter's interview with reporters:
Here's a link to a one-minute highlight video of the workout. Good: spot-up shooting. Not so good: his lack of strength in post-up drills. But of course, it's just a highlight video of one workout.
Porter's interview seemed generally boring -- he's clearly not the most dynamic personality in the world -- and the only thing that stood out was when he was asked about his strength. Given his age (just turned 20) and frame, I think he can put on weight, and so does he.
"I'm definitely putting on more weight. I just turned 20 not too long ago, so I'm definitely getting into my body," he said.
Clearly, he'll need to add that weight, as that brief shot of him in isolation drills shows.
Of much more interest: this tidbit from Chris Mannix's latest mock draft, published just before Porter's workout.
Porter was scheduled to work out for the Wizards on Friday, and unless he is a disaster, he's the likely pick. Anthony Bennett and Victor Oladipo will get some consideration, but it would be shocking if the Wizards passed on Porter, a versatile forward with an excellent mid-range game who will slip right into a young core headlined by guards John Wall and Bradley Beal.
Well then. The Wizards' interest in Porter isn't exactly a secret, but I haven't seen it expressed in those terms.
We'll link to more coverage of today's workout as it comes in.
