WASHINGTON -- There was a lot of talk pregame about the 1978 championship team, which will be honored at halftime, but the current players are a little distanced from that. Randy Wittman says many of the members of the 1978 title team have visited practices this year, but John Wall admitted he's only met Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld briefly prior to tonight.
Nevertheless, Wall said he hopes the fans give the 1978 title team the proper respect.
"When you come to an organization and you get the only championship they've had, and it's been 35 years, you've got to show them a lot of love and support. I hope they get a standing ovation."
Pacers coach Frank Vogel, meanwhile, was asked by our Thomas Pruitt about whether he's changed coverages on Wall since his March breakout.
"You still want to keep him out of the paint first and hope he doesn't get hot from the perimeter," Vogel said. "So I guess from that regard, you've got to honor his game from the perimeter too. That makes keeping him out of the paint that much more challenging."
