It's official: the Washington Wizards will be in the No. 8 position in the 2013 NBA Draft lottery. The Wizards have lost a random drawing with the Detroit Pistons, according to Pistons.com writer Keith Langlois. That also ensures the Wizards will pick ahead of Detroit in the second round at No. 37 overall.
The Wizards and Pistons both finished 29-53, necessitating the drawing.
What does losing the tiebreaker mean? If neither team moves up into the top three, the Pistons will automatically pick one spot ahead of the Wizards. Detroit also has 36 of the 1,000 combinations to get the No. 1 overall pick, compared to 35 for the Wizards. That gives Washington a 3.5-percent chance to get the No. 1 overall pick.
The Wizards will also have the Knicks' second-round pick. If the lottery goes as planned, Washington will hold the No. 8, No. 37 and No. 54 selections.
