John Wall injury update: Wizards' PG will play vs. Heat

Despite a scare with back spasms, the Wizards' max-contract man said he will suit up against the defending champions.

A night of rest and treatment appear to have done enough to convince John Wall he can play in Sunday's game against the Miami Heat despite dealing with a back issue, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post. Wall said he applied heat overnight to the area and he feels a lot better than he did on Saturday.

Wall also took the blame publicly for the Wizards' uneven defensive effort against surprising juggernaut Philadelphia on Friday.

"It starts with me," he said. "I'm the head of the snake on defense and offense and in the second half of the Sixers game, I wasn't playing the same defense that I did in the first half. That's one thing coach said, just play both ends the whole 48 [minutes]. We haven't played a game, 48 minutes yet, where we play defense. When you don't do that, teams find a way and get a lot of courage and feel like they can stick around and win games and that's what happened the last two games."

That's nice lip service, but to back it up, Wall needs to stick more to his man and stop gambling off the ball.
