Otto Porter injury: Wizards' rookie unlikely to play in first 2 preseason games

The Wizards' rookie continues to deal with a hip flexor injury and strongly suggested he won't play in the team's first two preseason games.

USA TODAY Sports

Otto Porter's injured hip flexor has now been an issue for nearly a month. It's no surprise, then, that he probably won't play in the team's first two preseason games. Via Michael Lee of the Washington Post:

Porter's return remains uncertain, and he has already hinted he wouldn't be available for either of the first two exhibition games against Brooklyn or Chicago. Porter plans to travel with the team to Rio de Janeiro for the first-ever preseason game in South America but added that he would be more excited about the trip "if I was playing."

Randy Wittman went a step further in an interview with J Michael of CSN Washington, saying that Porter and Trevor Booker, who is dealing with a sore knee, both wouldn't play in Tuesday's opener against the Brooklyn Nets.  Porter has been dealing with this issue since September 14, when he slipped during a scrimmage.

In the Washington Post link, Randy Wittman was classically honest about what Porter is missing by not being at training camp. The Wizards are trying to bridge the gap by having Porter watch film with the coaches, but there's no substitute for being out there.

There's really nothing either side can do but get healthy and make lemonade from lemons, but this is definitely not good for Porter's development.
