Wizards Wrap: Gilbert Arenas still has more money than you

New, comment

BREAKING NEWS: Gilbert Arenas is not poor.

The Washington Wizards wrapped up their 2-5 preseason Wednesday with a blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, so there's plenty of news to get to. But we're going to lead off this week's Wrap with a trifecta of breaking news out of crazytown:

  • It isn't an extreme position to consider Gilbert Arenas' contract one of the worst in sports. One reason is that Arenas himself agrees. This is hilarious to all non-Wizards fans, and probably hilarious for lots of Wizards fans, too. [TMZ (yep)DC Sports BogOrlando SentinelSports GridComplex SportsRant Sports]
  • Arenas using $100 bills as toilet paper is probably the most Gilbert Arenas-thing ever. Maybe this is because I'm poor, but that's seems a little rougher than I'd prefer. Stick with Charmin Ultra, Gil. Also, where does your sewer system empty out? I need a new TV... [Huff PostFOX SportsBall Is Life]
  • Also also, Gil recently noticed he was driving next to Nick Young on a Los Angeles freeway, because this is the kind of thing that happens in LA, and as you can imagine, both of them got really, really excited. Like, dangerously excited. Oh em gee so much Gil news!! [ProBasketballTalkDimeMag Sir Charles In ChargeLarry Brown Sports]
  • If you haven't checked out SB Nation's preview of the 2013-14 NBA season, it is amazing and gorgeous and shame on you.
  • Alright, try not to hyperventilate, but the NBA's best reporter just mentioned D.C. as a possible landing spot for Kevin Durant in 2016. STAY CALM.
  • Would dreams of Kenneth Faried be more realistic? [CSN Washington]
  • How about Derrick Williams? [Wiz of Awes]
  • A scout's take on the 2013-14 Wizards. [SI]
  • NBA general managers expect the Wizards to improve, along with pretty much every other bad team from last season. [DC Sports BogCSN Washington]
  • averagebro is worried about Wall's lackluster preseason performance. Bro, stop killing our buzz.
  • Then again, Wall wasn't too thrilled with his preseason, either, so maybe there is some cause for concern? [Wizards InsiderCSN Washington]
  • Hold on, the folks behind NBA Live 14 are expecting big things from Wall, so everything is OK. [Wiz of Awes]
  • Truth About It has begun its must-read series of player previews for the 2013-14 Wizards. [Ariza |PorterHarrington Maynor BookerGRJR Temple Singleton]
  • After a preseason that had them travel to Brazil, Kentucky, Detroit and Cincinnati, the Wizards shouldn't be caught off guard by any extensive regular season road trips. [WaPo]
  • The Wiz are counting on Trevor Ariza as a starter this season, hopeful that his defensive versatility makes up for any offensive efficiency lost by sending Martell Webster to the bench. [WaPoCSN Washington]
  • Webster doesn't mind coming off the bench if it helps the team win games. [WaPo]
  • Everyone loves Al Harrington as a Stretch 4 for the this team, but he considers himself more. [Wizards Insider]
  • Ariza and Harrington left their preseason shooting woes behind against the Cavaliers. [WaPo]
  • Harrington is hoping he can help continue the purge of knuckleheadedness from the Wizards' locker room. [Wiz of Awes]
  • Not a surprise, but the Wizards have cut GW-alum Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Josh Childress and Xavier Silas. [WaPoCSN WashingtonPress release]
  • The team's official blog tackles five 'burning' questions entering the season.
  • As we noted two Wraps agoOtto Porter recently did our fanbase proud with a selfless act of kindness. Here's a little more on that story. [DC Sports Bog]

  • Greg Monroe isn't worried about his fellow Georgetown alum. [Wizards Insider]
  • Garrett Temple is adjusting to playing more minutes at point guard, which is what I thought he was here to do in the first place. [CSN Washington]
  • Wall said he would begin writing 'Playoffs' on the shoes this season. It has begun. [DC Sports Bog]
  • In case there was any doubt, Wall remains kind of a big deal in Lexington. [WaPo]
  • When Dan Steinberg gets bored, he will stand outside Verizon Center and take approximately one bajillion photos of the same electronic billboard. How meta of him. [DC Sports Bog]
  • I'm loath to admit anything written about Andray Blatche is good, but this is pretty excellent. [NetsDaily]
