The Washington Wizards have officially hired Jerry Sichting as an next assistant coach, confirming multiple reports from the past two weeks. Sichting has a history with head coach Randy Wittman, so Wittman has decided to bring him aboard his staff for this season.
Sichting spent nine years with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the late-90s and early 00s, seven of which were with Wittman. After a brief stint in college, Wittman returned to Minnesota's bench for two years when Wittman was coaching there. He spent one year as the director of pro personnel, then was with Golden State as an assistant for one year before leaving the NBA last season. He played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Pacers, Celtics, Blazers, Hornets and Bucks.
Wittman's staff now includes Sichting, Don Newman, Gene Banks, Don Zierden, Sam Cassell and Ryan Saunders, among others. It's one of the bigger staffs in the league.
