In a pretty surprising development, the Washington Wizards' 2012 NBA Summer League coaching staff will feature Sam Cassell and two players who are not currently under contract next season. Via Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld, Roger Mason and Maurice Evans will be Cassell's assistants. This is according to Evans himself.
Mo Evans: "The Wizards have given me the opportunity to coach the summer league team with Sam and Roger. It will be a great experience."

It is certainly unusual for players to serve as assistants during summer league. It is even more unusual for two players not under contract to serve as assistants during summer league. One would think that Mason and Evans are both returning to the team next year; otherwise, why are they assistants? I guess the alternative is that they're retiring, but that seems pretty unlikely.
If they are coming back, it means the Wizards will have 13 players under contract, plus the No. 3 pick, plus the No. 32 pick if it's used. That doesn't include Cartier Martin, Morris Almond or James Singleton.
