Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears paid a visit to Verizon Center tonight, and as it turned out, it was to talk to injured Wizards point guard John Wall. In a one-on-one interview, Wall told Spears that he's targeting a return to the court "sometime in January."
"My timetable is some time in January," Wall told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night. "The way I am feeling with no pain, working out and doing it three [days straight] and it has no pain, I'm feeling good. I feel like I am taking the right steps and I haven't had no pain the last couple of days after workouts."
Wall, as he has throughout this process, preached patience, saying he won't return to action until he is fully healthy. Remember that he exacerbated some relatively minor knee issues as a rookie by trying to play through the pain. That clearly is weighing on him as he goes through his rehab now.
Wall also told Spears that he is motivated to perform because he noticed his name getting passed over (correctly) when people talk about the best young point guards in the league. Only time will tell if he makes good on that motivation.
