Making the cut: When Jannero Pargo was signed on media day as an injury fill-in for John Wall, it looked like the Wizards were locked into their 15-man roster for the season. Now however, with Nene and Seraphin on the shelf as well, it looks like the frontcourt might be the area where the Wizards are more depleted heading into the season. Jannero Pargo hasn't necessarily played himself out of a roster spot, but he still might wind up being the odd man out because of the injury situation. Then again, if the Price and Mack struggle and Pargo has a solid night, he might be able to show the coaching staff that having an extra point guard is still a priority.
Small forward shuffle: Martell Webster and Trevor Ariza have been batting for that starting small forward job all preseason long. While Webster has put together a better case to start, part of that is because he's better suited to handle the extra offensive responsibilities that come with John Wall being out, while you could argue Ariza is a better fit once Wall returns. Will Wittman keep Ariza in the starting lineup to maintain stability until Wall comes back? Answer appears like it may be yes. Ariza has started the last two games as Wittman has slowly began doling out minutes more like he will once the regular season starts.
Injury Report: The usual suspects (Wall, Nene and Seraphin) are all still out for the Wizards. Manu Ginobili will miss tonight's game for the Spurs with back spasms.
Newman...: When we talk about the Wizards' moves this summer, we don't bring up hiring former Spurs assistant Don Newman as much as we should. As the Wizards continue on their rebuild, having someone on the coaching staff who has worked with one of the premiere NBA franchises certainly isn't a bad thing for the Wizards. Tonight, he makes his return to San Antonio to face his old team for the first time.
The revolution will be televised: Tonight's Wizards-Spurs game can be seen on CSN Washington tonight at 8:30 PM EST. Better yet, the start of the regular season means we are all televised from here out, assuming Hurricane Sandy doesn't wipe out your electric. If that's the case, don't forget Dave Johnson and Glenn Consor are some of the best in the business, so you'll still be in very capable hands.
Do the Spurs care about tonight's game? Signs are pointing to no.
